Description

The Cherne 8" End-of-Pipe Gripper (part #270-270) is the largest mechanical End-of-Pipe Gripper in the Cherne line — built for 8" sewer and storm drain testing. Rated for 17 PSI / 40 ft. head pressure. Fits 8" Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 PVC, ABS, and cast iron pipe (usage range 7.70"–8.03" ID). At 2.60 lbs with a 3-3/4" body length, it’s a substantial plug for large-bore applications. Glass-reinforced ABS body with natural rubber O-ring — wing nut expansion, no inflation or gauge required.

Key Features

  • End-of-pipe design — seats at the pipe end and cannot fall in during testing
  • 17 PSI / 40 ft. head pressure — meets code requirements for DWV and sewer air tests
  • Mechanical wing nut expansion — no inflation needed, no gauge to carry
  • Natural rubber O-ring — seals round and out-of-round pipes with excellent memory
  • Zinc-plated hardware — carriage bolt and extra-large wing nut resist rust and corrosion

Applications

Municipal sewer testing on 8" mains, storm drain isolation, large-diameter DWV inspections, and temporary blockage for pipe repair or replacement. For pipe larger than 8", consider the Cherne T-Handle Gripper with Bypass (available in 6"–18" sizes).
