How is the Grip-N-Lock different from a standard snap cap?
Standard snap caps rely on a friction fit that loosens through freeze-thaw cycling — by spring, half the wells on a cold-climate site can be sitting open. The Grip-N-Lock's ten internal concentric rings clamp the casing exterior with enough force to hold through repeated thermal cycles, keeping the well sealed until you remove the cap yourself.
How do you install a Grip-N-Lock well cap?
One mallet tap seats the cap onto the bare casing — instantly watertight thanks to the internal compression gasket. There's no grouting, screwing, riveting, or gluing, and no tools beyond the mallet. The cap is chemically inert, so it won't react with casing materials or groundwater chemistry.
What sizes does the Grip-N-Lock fit?
The Grip-N-Lock is available in 2" and 4" for standard PVC monitoring well casings, and works with both SCH 40 and SCH 80 pipe. Those two sizes cover the vast majority of monitoring well installations in the field.
How much does a Grip-N-Lock well cap cost?
Grip-N-Lock caps run $26 to $32 each depending on size. For monitoring networks, volume pricing is available on orders of 50+ units — a full-site refresh of failing snap caps typically costs far less than a single compromised sampling event.
Can I padlock a Grip-N-Lock cap?
Yes. Every Grip-N-Lock has a locking eyelet that accepts a standard padlock or lockout tag. That gives you tamper evidence and supports chain-of-custody documentation at regulated monitoring sites, without any special keys or tools.
What is the purpose of a monitoring well cap?
It seals the casing against surface water, debris, insects, and tampering between sampling events, protecting the integrity of your groundwater data. Caps grip the outside of the pipe and remove quickly for sampling access; locking well plugs seal from inside the casing when a flush internal seal is specified.
Is the Grip-N-Lock made in the USA?
Yes. Grip-N-Lock well caps are designed and manufactured by Enviro Design Products in the United States, from UV-stable polypropylene with ultra-high chemical and temperature resistance for multi-season outdoor exposure.
Is the lock built into the Grip-N-Lock, or does it use an external padlock?
The gripping mechanism is integrated into the cap body, so there is no exposed hasp for a standard snap cap to be pried off by — while the cap still accepts a padlock or lockout tag for chain-of-custody. For sites that have to pass a regulator audit for wellhead security, the integrated design is a safer spec than an add-on padlock point.
