Description
The Cherne 6" T-Handle Gripper with Bypass (part #272-949) is a heavy-duty aluminum mechanical test plug with a 1/4" NPT male bypass nipple for controlled flow during sewer air pressure testing. Rated for 17 PSI / 40 ft. head pressure. Fits 6" concrete, clay, SDR 26, and SDR 35 pipe (usage range 5.7"–6.3" ID). Chemical-resistant neoprene O-ring with zinc-plated steel T-handle for high-torque expansion. At 9.1 lbs, this is the entry-level size in the T-Handle line — purpose-built for underground sewer and storm pipe.
Key Features
- T-handle mechanical expansion — high-torque sealing for concrete, clay, and SDR pipe
- 1/4" NPT M threaded bypass — controlled flow during testing without full shutoff
- 17 PSI / 40 ft. head pressure — rated for sewer air pressure tests
- Chemical-resistant neoprene O-ring — handles sewer gas and chemical exposure
- Heavy-duty aluminum body — corrosion-resistant and lighter than cast iron
Applications
Sewer air pressure testing on 6" concrete and clay mains, long-term bypass plugging during construction, storm sewer isolation with controlled flow-through, and any large-pipe application requiring a bypass during testing. The T-handle provides more expansion force than a wing nut — essential for sealing concrete and clay pipe.
