Description
The Cherne 6" Inside-of-Pipe Gripper (part #270-253) is a mechanical test plug that seals inside 6" sewer and DWV pipe — position it at any point inside the run. Rated for 17 PSI / 40 ft. head pressure. Fits 6" Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 PVC, ABS, and cast iron pipe (usage range 5.77"–6.08" ID). The 1.60 lb plug with 3-3/4" body handles commercial and municipal pipe sizes. Glass-reinforced ABS body with natural rubber O-ring seals round and out-of-round pipes — wing nut expansion, no inflation needed.
Key Features
- Inside-of-pipe design — position the plug at any depth inside the pipe, not just at the end
- 17 PSI / 40 ft. head pressure — meets code requirements for DWV and sewer air tests
- Mechanical wing nut expansion — no inflation needed, no gauge to carry
- Natural rubber O-ring — seals round and out-of-round pipes with excellent memory
- Zinc-plated hardware — carriage bolt and extra-large wing nut resist rust and corrosion
Applications
Commercial and municipal pipe isolation for DWV testing on 6" lines, multi-story stack testing, sewer air compliance tests, and temporary section isolation during repairs. Use the inside-of-pipe design when you need to plug at a specific depth rather than at the pipe opening.
